Motor Vehicle Theft

Auto Theft

Theft of a motor vehicle is commonly referred to as Auto Theft. The State of Arkansas does not have a specific statute for Auto Theft, it is simply considered Theft of Property and identified for statistical purposes only.

Most Auto Thefts can be prevented by simply turning the engine off, removing the keys and locking the door.

Arkansas Statute 27-51-1306. Unattended motor vehicles

No person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall permit it to stand unattended without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition, and removing the key, or, when standing upon any perceptible grade, without effectively setting the brake and turning the front wheels to the curb or side of the highway.
