Aggravated Assault

Aggravated Assault as defined by UCR is an unlawful attack by one person on another for the purpose of inflicting severe injury. This type of assault is usually accompanied by the use of a weapon or by other means likely to produce death or great bodily harm. It is estimated that as high as 90% assaults are committed by someone the victim knows. It is also estimated that as high as 80% of assaults occur when one or both parties are under the influence of intoxicants.
